what you believe is true

2009 February 2

what you believe is true - at least for you - and nothing else really matters when you're trying to change your mind.

if you believe you can quit smoking, your body and mind will give you the result of succeeding in your attempt to quit

if you're out taking a walk in the woods and a big man dressed in a realistic bear costume comes running towards you, roaring like a bear, and you believe it really is a bear, your body and mind will react exactly the same way it would have if it really was a bear. you'll feel the exact same fear, adrenalin will pump into your blood, your heart will pound, you'll run away as fast as you can.

because you believe the bear is real, it is real - for you - and your body and mind do the appropriate things.

in the same way, if you believe you can't quit smoking, your body and mind will give you the result of failing to quit.

on the other hand, if you believe you can quit smoking, your body and mind will give you the result of succeeding in your attempt to quit smoking.

and you get to choose what you believe.

choose wisely.

This is so true. And I have chosen wisely. For 10 months I have believed in myself and I have chosen not to smoke. And I will keep believing and choosing freedom.
