privacy policy

anonymous information we collect:
like every other web server in the world, this one automatically logs every user's ip address. also like every other web server, this one collects aggregate data on which pages visitors visit. there's nothing in any of this data that can be tied to you personally.
personally-identifiable information we collect:
we collect names and email addresses from all visitors who leave comments or use the contact form. additionally, if you sign up for email notifications about updates to the site, our email notification service provider (feedburner.com) will need your email address to send you the updates. their privacy policy can be read here: http://www.feedburner.com/fb/a/privacy
how we use the information we collect:
we use the anonymous information to provide better service to our visitors, to see which content is the most popular, what browsers people are using to access the site, and so on.
we use names to identify user comments and email addresses to respond to questions or feedback. period. we do not rent, sell, give away, or otherwise reveal this information to any third party for any reason.
new uses:
it's possible we'll want to start collecting different kinds of information, or find new and interesting uses for the information we're already collecting. if that happens, we'll notify subscribers through our email service and everyone else by posting the changes right here on this page.
opt in policy:
also, because we hate the inherently coercive concept of making users opt out of something, you'll instead be given the opportunity to opt in to any proposed new use of your information. and if you don't opt in, we won't use your information in that way. period.
cookies:
we use temporary cookies to keep track of session information. we don't allow third parties to place cookies on your machine under any circumstances.
access to your personally-identifiable information:
we don't have any mechanism in place for you to directly update or delete any personally-identifiable information you may give to us, but if you contact us, we'll be happy to update or delete whatever information we can (after satisfying ourselves that you are in fact who you say you are).
since we don't control the personally-identifiable information you may give to feedburner, we can't grant you access to it. (if you're concerned about this, please see the feedburner privacy policy linked to, above, for details.)
security:
there are reasonable security measures in place to protect the personally-identifiable information we store about you, but, since we don't anticipate collecting credit card numbers, bank account passwords, social security numbers, or other sensitive information, security is not airtight. our best advice to you is not to give us any personally-identifiable information that would cause you distress should it be compromised.
we hate to sound like a broken record, but, since we don't control the personally-identifiable information you may give to feedburner, we can't say what security measures are in place to protect it. (if you're concerned about this, please see the feedburner privacy policy linked to, above, for details.)
